Why James Cameron changed the final of the second "Terminator"

It's no secret that the film “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” ends differently in theatrical and extended versions: In the theater, the film ends with the shots of a running highway and the words of Sarah Connor about the value of human life, which even the robot understood. In the expanded version, the film ends with the year 2029, in which the aged Sara watches her son and granddaughter playing at the playground.

An interesting point is that Cameron considers the director's version of the film to be a theater manager, although he originally shot the final from the expanded version. But why did he decide to change the end of the film?

Although, for a start, let's remember both endings. Here is the theater track

And this is from the extended edition.

And it was like that. When the film was almost ready, the director suddenly decided that the viewer was not morally ready to see the aged Sarah Connor. That it is impossible to show a character who has suddenly grown old, it was necessary either to state this at the beginning of the film, or to live his life up to this period with him, on the screen. And suddenly take and age it in one second - you can not.

In addition, the final did not like the producers of the film (apparently he did not leave a loophole for the sequel). It was their discontent that was the last straw in order for Cameron to make another ending urgently. They did it in the editing studio the very next day.

There was simply no time to film the new final. And then for him they took the shots of the highway near the Cyberdine building (you can be sure of this by squandering the film back) and put Sarah’s voice on them with the words: “If a robot, a terminator, was able to realize the value of human life, we may also be able to ... "For more, just did not have enough timekeeping
