In general, when Vladimir Alenikov took up shooting a picture about the adventures of two friends, the castings of young actors for the role of protagonists were held throughout the country - in Kiev, Moscow, Odessa and other cities. To show the crew of future heroes, the director drew them on leaves: a plump, slightly well-fed Petrov and a thin, brisk and nosy Vasechkin. They were searched in schools, circles, Palaces of pioneers, even in zoos where there are always a lot of guys. About five thousand children have been reconsidered, even half a dozen have been selected, but Alenikov still could not decide.
