John Silver by Oleg Borisov

John Silver is one of the most popular literary heroes, stepping onto the movie screens. This colorful pirate at different times was played by about 20 wonderful actors (not counting cartoons). I already did a post about the best Silverers in the movies. And the disputes over who better embodied this role on the screen still do not cease (as well as Ostap Bender or D'Artagnan).

But personally, my choice is still Silver by Oleg Borisov. Yes, his Silver is not much like the commander of the boarding team (a kind of pirated special forces). But it was he who was this pirate according to Stevenson's intention. The fact that he was a quartermaster on Flint’s ship is most likely a translator’s mistake. Silver was not the quartermaster, but the master quart — the commander on the fourth deck, where the most desperate thugs marching in the front row were.

But Silver Borisova does not look like a big man, terrifying by his own appearance. Yes, this character was highly respected by the pirates. More precisely, respect, mixed with fear. Not for nothing was the phrase "Some were afraid of Pugh, others were Billy Bones, and me ... hehe ... he was afraid of Flint himself." He was not afraid because Silver was physically stronger. There is more to the matter. He was smarter and smarter than all the other pirates. He did not lose self-control and control over people and the situation even in the most difficult and almost hopeless cases. Silver knew how to keep in check the most desperate thugs who were terrified by all the sailors of those years. And just such a pirate showed Oleg Borisov. Not a thug, who decided everything with the power of muscles and saber, but a clever, calculating pirate. Who can, when the situation requires it, be cruel when necessary - humane, and for the majority - charming Kok.

And it is from this ability of Silver, from a charming cripple, a good-natured coca, to turn into a ruthless leader of a gang of thugs, capable of anything going on his leash — goosebumps. And exactly this Silver, in my opinion, was able to be realized on the screen by Oleg Borisov
