I recently wrote that the first "Die Hard" was conceived at first as a continuation of the film "Detective" with Frank Sinatra, and then as the sequel "Commando" with Arnold Schwarzenegger.
With this film, a similar story happened. The original script was written as a continuation of the film "A Quick Fire" with Brandon Lee. But only the tragic death of the actor during the filming of the film "The Crow" destroyed all plans.
The script had to collect dust on the shelf until the mid-90s, when they got it, dusted off and tried to make out of it the fourth part of the "Deadly Weapon" with Mel Gibson, and it was decided to give it to the partners this time.
