Gesha Kozadoyev from the "Diamond Arm". Photo test

When Leonid Gaidai took up shooting the film under the working title "Smuggler" (which is exactly what Slobodsky and Kostyukovsky called the screenplay of the script), no one doubted who would play the main positive role - the script was originally written for Nikulin. Another thing is a couple of unlucky scammers nicknamed Count and Mechanic (I think you realized that we are talking about Geshe and Lelik)

Here there was no unequivocal decision. On the one hand, it was easier for the director to work with the "actors from the clip", already tested in previous films. But on the other hand, they are already followed by a train of already played roles and images.

About someone who could play Lelik, we'll talk somehow later. Today I propose to look at what Gesha Kozodoyev called "Count" could look like (I do not remember, though, that this was at least once in the film, apparently it was only in the script) in the performance of other actors.

Yes, and the actors invited to the test were wonderful

Here, for example, in the image of "Count" Valery Nosik. Gaidai tried him for the role of Shurik in Operation Y. But he played there, as you remember a student card-giver

And this "Count" in the performance of Michael Pugovkin, also played before that in Gaidai in "Operation" Y "

But Rudolf Rudin did not act in Gaidai, but he was familiar to the viewer as a pan Himalayan from "Kabachka" 13 chairs "

But Nosika and Rudin Khudsovet hacked at once with the phrase "Do not fit"

Gaidai himself was inclined to two other contenders - Gergii Vitsina (whom by that time he had already made five films)

And a new actor for himself - Andrei Mironov

It was from these that the Khudsovet had to choose at the final meeting. Here are the fragments from this meeting

"Vicin or Mironov? Everything depends on the idea." If in the old tradition, it's Vitsin, if in a new way, Mironov. "Vicin is not a new role, but a repetition of the character that was played before ..."
Nikulin, Papanov: I need to take on the role of Count Mironov - he is very persuasive ... "
"I like Mordyukov, Papanov is a busy actor, but I'm completely for him." Mironov is brilliantly approaching this role ... "
"In comparison with Vicin, Mironov is on horseback, but Mironov does not seem to me to be a 100% hit either." He's still croaking. "I can not finally say yes to Mironov ..."
"I liked the graph - Mironov, I think it's a sniper hit." With Nikulin, he's surprisingly co-opted. "Absolutely! .."
"Mironov is not lucky in the cinema, I am convinced that Gaidai will make him a comedic actor ..."

As you can see, the overwhelming majority of the Khudsovet was for Mironov

I do not know what would have turned out Kozadoyev from Vicin, and Georgy Mikhailovich was a remarkable versatile actor. But in the choice with Mironov, I think no one will argue, the hudsovet was not mistaken - this is one of the best roles of Andrei Alexandrovich
