"12 chairs" Zakharov remake of the film Gaidai?

Yesterday, in the comments, I had a dispute with one of my friends. He claims that Zakharov's "12 chairs" is a remake of Gaidai's "12 chairs". In general, I believe that the other adaptation of the literary work is not a remake. Except for cases when the director of a new film does not retake almost verbatim the script of the old one. But there are not many such cases in the history of cinema

Immediately the situation, in my opinion, is quite different. Rarely are there such different interpretations of the same work. Gaidai's film is in the spirit of his previous films. He got an eccentric comedy, saturated with gags, and other techniques typical of this genre

Zakharov's film is rather a theatrical musical. I would even call it a multi-series television show, with a deeper immersion in the text (due to Gerdt's voice-over voice)

It's also difficult to compare the main character - Ostap himself. Bender Gomiashvili and Bender Mironov are absolutely different people, despite the general literary basis.

Here is what this friend writes: "The meaning of the remake is the repetition of the film with a different meaning." It is shot in another genre and in another way, but the scenes are the same. "

But forgive me, how can I put another meaning into the adaptation of the literary work? The meaning of the screen version - to embody the director's vision of writing on the screen! And if the vision coincides, then nothing new can be invested in it, it changes only the forms. And if he put another meaning, it's not a film adaptation, but a film based on the motives, like, for example, "Solaris" or "Stalker" Tarkovsky. The idea of the author, but the implementation of the director's, which has little to do with the original.

So I decided to appeal to you, my readers, as you think, Zakharov's remake of Gaidai, or his own, author's reading
