Why Alexander Mitta took off the "Crew"

Director Alexander Mitta for several years nurtured the idea of removing a realistic multi-genre cinema - he wanted to mix a melodrama, a romantic comedy, a domestic drama, a tragedy, a feat on the screen in one film. Everything happens in real life. As a result, in 1976 he applied for a film about a plane crash

But the application was not accepted. Everything has changed in a couple of years. Struggling for the viewer with increasing competition with television, the Goskino commissioned several paintings with a Hollywood scale. On Mosfilm began work on the shooting of "Pirates of the twentieth century" and "Moscow does not believe in tears." They also remembered the application of Mitta and accepted it without a single correction

But in the midst of working on the script, the project was almost closed. The reason this time was the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The minister learned that the shooting of a plane crash on the territory of the USSR is being prepared and demanded that the production of the film that defames the prestige of our aviation be stopped

Director of the film and director went to the minister BP Bugaev. The result of this meeting was that Mitta, with the writers Dunsky and Freed, sat down for a reworking of the script. The scene of the disaster had to be transferred to a fictional African city, and the cause of the crash of an airplane was changed to a natural disaster. True were from the meeting and positive moments - Deputy Minister of Aviation Pavlov became a consultant to the film. With his help, it was possible to find the decommissioned aircraft and on one of his calls were allowed to shoot both in Sheremetyevo and in Domodedovo

But Mitte managed to keep in the script the main thing for which he shot this film - a living human relationship. And by the end of 1978 he was ready to shoot a film with the working title "Safety factor" (the first name was "Special circumstances") and with the star team of actors: the crew commander Timchenko - Alexei Petrenko, the second pilot Nenarokov - Nikolai Karachentsov, flight engineer Skvortsov - Oleg Dal, stewardess Tamara - Elena Proklova. And that's why in the end other actors shot and what else happened during the shooting, I'll tell you some other time
