The history of the film "Kin-dza-dza" goes back to the very beginning of the 80s. George Danelia, just finished work on the picture "Tears dripping," was looking for an idea for his new film. It was presented to him by the Italian screenwriter Tonino Guerra, who at that time was staying with Danelia
He advised him to remove a magical story, such that "you could keep her warm, because you are so cold in winter in Russia." Danelia liked the idea and he called his regular co-author Rezo Gabriadze and told him: "Let's write a fairy tale"

Here it should be noted that "Tears dripped" in fact also a fairy tale - a modern reading of Andersen. But it was very sad and not warm at all. When Danelia and Gabriadze met, in the end they decided not to make a fairy tale, but to start work on a fantastic storyline
As a basis, it was decided to take the "Treasure Island" of Stevenson, but to transfer the entire action into space.
"Under the yellow sky with two suns, white sand dazzles brilliantly, and in the endless white desert there is a creature in short pants on straps." Fitzulka. "Instead of a nose, a proboscis." Ears are large, transparent, eyes round, golden. " So the new script began.
How did the brilliant "Kin-dza-dza" come from the Stivenona "Treasure Island"? That's what I can not explain. And I have no chance to ask Danelia or Gabriadze. They worked very long on the script. They altered, changed, copied. I only know who got the idea with the withered civilization.

When the authors failed the next attempt to come up with an original storyline, Rezo Gabriadze said: "A person always looked at the sky and imagined that he was not alone in this world, but for some reason it always seemed to the person that aliens were noble, highly developed beings. if it is not so.Suddenly they are small and pathetic. "

And this is exactly the idea that formed the basis of the scenario, which, at first, received the name "Cosmic dust". Work on it moved from the dead end.
And the idea of transferring the "Treasure Island" into space is realized later by Antonio Margeriti, who made a five-part television movie about space pirates and a treasure planet based on Stevenson's motives
