"Mimino". One of the most beloved works of George Danelia, the master of sad comedy. All of you perfectly remember the history of a taciturn provincial pilot who dreamed of long-range aviation, but when the dream came true, he realized that there is nothing better than his own home

Above the script, the director Georgy Danelia worked together with screenwriters Revaz Gabriadze and Victoria Tokareva. The film was to be called "Nothing special", and the main characters are a helicopter pilot performed by Vakhtang Kikabidze and an endocrinologist performed by Yevgeny Leonov. In the course of the work, an alternative hero appeared-the driver-Armenian, whose role Frunzik Mkrtchyan decided to take. With whom Valiko will settle in the hotel room - with a doctor or a driver - the writers decided with the help of a coin toss ... The chauffeur dropped, and then for Evgeny Leonov they wrote the role of front-line soldier Volokhov. He was the favorite actor of Danelia, he just could not help taking it off in his film.

When George Danelia told the Goskino that he wants to change the name of the film to "Mimino", which means "falcon" in Georgian, he was told that the word stupid and will not be changed. To defend the new name, the chairman of the State Committee rose: he thought that the film could be shown at the Moscow International Film Festival, and Mimino sounded more intriguing than the featureless "Nothing Special".
In the film, many musical numbers were planned, but they were removed at the request of Vakhtang Kikabidze. He said that he will not sing in the frame - it's not in the character of his hero. Valiko is a taciturn serious Georgian, and funny songs in his performance will sound unnatural. George Danelia agreed with the actor and left a few songs for other heroes, and Vakhtang Kikabidze performed the famous "Chito-gvrito" behind the scenes. In the frame, the actor only sung the Georgian folk song "Mushroom rain" in an erroneous telephone conversation between Valiko and Tel Aviv.
The hero Vakhtang Kikabidze - the pilot Valiko - had a dog named Zarbazan (in Georgian "gun"). The director was looking for a typical mongrel, so all the variants of well-groomed pets were not suitable for him. A real Zarbazan was met on the road - a shaggy dog ran about its business when it was taken by the shooting team with the thought: "It's urgent to take pictures, but we'll explain everything to the owners later." It turned out that Zarbazan never had a boss. The director of the film, which turned out to be a very sociable dog, took with him to Moscow.

The Georgian part of the film was filmed in the city of Telavi and the villages of Omalo and Shinako. In exchange for a kerosene that was scarce in those areas, the crew was assisted by the crew. Problems arose only with the scene of transportation on the helicopter of the cow - the pilot demanded permission from his leadership, as this was a violation of flight safety. To look for guidance and to wait for an answer from him there was no time, and then the director decided to play on Georgian pride: "Ah, it was necessary to take a pilot from Moscow. Then the master is needed, as ... "The pilot was very offended and said that they load their cow, it will transport where necessary. In one of the episodes in the role of pilot appears and George himself Danelia ...
The locals did not annoy the film crew until the rumor spread over the mountains that Vakhtang Kikabidze had arrived on the shooting. After that, shepherds began coming from all sides to respect their favorite artist. And it was impossible to refuse a meeting with a man who was riding this horse that day ... The trouble was that everyone came with his chacha and generously poured expensive Bube, and when the actor refused to complain about a sick liver or heart, he was assured that Chacha - the best cure for ailments. From despair Kikabidze thought up that he was being treated for male sickness, and he was forbidden to drink it by doctors. Shepherds nodded knowingly and no one poured more ...

The episode with a young lawyer, the director took from his biography of his eldest daughter. When she graduated from the law school and started her practice as a lawyer, she looked very young, and no one took her seriously. The first of its clients was an impressive recidivist from Butyrskaya prison. When the lawyer was left alone for the first time with her client, the girl forgot all that she had been taught at the institute with excitement and looked so frightened that the recidivist herself began to tell her that she should ask him ... The director gave the heroine Marina Dyuzheva the name of her daughter - Svetlana Georgievna.
Frunzik Mkrtchyan always came up with replicas for his heroes both on the set and at the stage of scoring. The film "Mimino" was no exception - almost the whole scene in court was an improvised actor. Rubik's famous phrases "I laughed so!", "You and she are not two pairs in a boot", "I'll tell you one clever thing, but only do not be offended", the actor also came up with himself.

The fiery dance scene of Rubik and Valiko was filmed at night in the restaurant of the Rossiya Hotel. The filming crew arrived in advance and found a late company of Armenians there, who recognized Frunzik Mkrtchyan and began to treat the countryman and the whole film group ... The company did not intend to disperse, so they filmed everyone who was. Dancing came out after a certain number of glasses, which complicated the work. When the lady threw a handkerchief and Mkrtchyan had to pick it up with his teeth from the floor - one actor fell in turn, then his partner with a handkerchief ... George Danelia whispered to Kikabidze to take the ill-fated handkerchief on the next double to finish this scene.
Lezginka with Rubik and Valiko danced actress Tatyana Rasputina, and few of the audience recognized in this lady a colorful performer of "energetic dance" from the previous film by Georgy Danelia "Afonya".
The film was very successful in the Soviet box office and collected prizes from several international film festivals, including the main prize of the Moscow International Film Festival of 1977 and the prize "Golden Lacheno" at the festival in Italy, and the directors and executors of the main roles were awarded State Prizes. In 2011, in the Armenian city of Dilijan, a monument to the heroes of the film - Valiko, Rubik and Ivan Volokhov - was opened. Rubik-jan boasted: "We open the tap in Dilijan, the water flows - the second place in the world occupies", so the monument was installed on the spring ... In the same year 2011, a sculptural composition that captured the same heroes and director George Danelia appeared in Tbilisi . Another monument to Rubik and Valiko is in the Kazakh Priozersk.
